About Us

Robert Sauer-Jones / Founder, Outback Outfitters Guiding Service:

Robert Sauer-Jones, a NYS licensed guide, (license #2708), was born in the Catskill Mountains. He has been hunting and fishing since he was “knee high to a grasshopper” and has spent his lifetime learning about the habits and patterns of wildlife in New York State. For fifteen years, Bob ran a very successful “trap line” which further enhanced his knowledge of small game. A lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, Bob has also been a member of the International Safari Club, the International Muzzle Loading Association, International Trapping Association, and the New York State Trapping Association. Bob has spent 35 years successfully hunting with rifle, archery, and a muzzle loader. Self-taught, Bob also reloads his own ammunition.
An avid fly fisherman, Bob ties his own flies and enjoys the sport of fishing for trout in lakes, streams and rivers. Bob strongly supports the catch and release program. Well versed in spin fishing, Bob will offer a variety of fishing experiences based on the client’s expectations.

Through the Department of Environmental Conservation licensing requirements, Bob Sauer-Jones is certified as a professional guide in Hunting, Fishing,Camping and is skilled in the use of boats and canoes. He is also certified by the American Red Cross in first aid safety, CPR, water safety and wilderness survival safety, Bob is ready to take his life-time love of the outdoors and share it with you…

                                                               

 Jake Sauer-Jones / Owner, Outback Outfitters Guiding Service

Jake Sauer-Jones (NYS Guides license #4249) like his father was born in the Catskill Mountains and has been enjoying the outdoors through hunting and fishing since he was old  enough to hold a snoopy fishing pole. He has been lucky enough to have one of the most knowledgeable outdoorsmen as his mentor, his father and founder of Outback Outfitters. Jake has worked in the buisness since he was 18,  guiding every weekend throughout college. After graduating from SUNY ESF (Evironmental Science and Forestry)  Jake continued to guide full time and has now become the owner of Outback Outfitters. He is determined to uphold the reputation of the buisness that his father developed.

Eddie Roberts / Bear and Turkey Guide

Eddie Roberts (NYS Licensed Guide) started as a turkey guide for Outback Outfitters and is now guiding for both turkey and bear. Eddie aka “the bird” or “bright eye” will also have you laughing the entire time you are staying with us as he workes his magic in the kitchen.

Eddie has been hunting since his late teens. Eddie is also a pro staff member of Dead Ringer Sights. Eddie’s calling skills are top notch and you can learn a lot by hunting with him. Eddie has entered several turkey call competitions and done very well. Eddie has completed his Grand Slam in turkey hunting which includes an Osceola, Miriam, Rio, and Eastern turkey. He is a current member of the National Rifle Association, National Wild Turkey Federation, and a member of the Highlands Chapter of New Jersey which raises money for the NWTF. Eddie does his turkey calls so well that he has earned the nickname “The Bird” from his family and hunting buddies. Eddie’s life passion is hunting and he will continue to take clients into the woods for the game they so desire to hunt.

Ask anyone of our clients and they will all tell you they never leave wishing they had more to eat! We have one of the best and most dedicated cooks a hunting camp can have, Mom. Pot Roast, stuffed chicken, meatloaf, chicken marsala and beef stew are just a few dinners that she will be cooking for you while you are on your adventure with us. Not full after dinner, how about a chocolate cake or apple pie for desert? We care about your entire experience while with us and there is nothing more important than a full and satisfied stomach after a hard day in the wilderness.
